Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, non-invasive biofield therapy centered on relaxation and stress reduction. The word comes from “Rei” (universal) and “Ki” (life force energy). During a standard session, you remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a massage table or sit in a supportive chair. The practitioner utilizes a series of light, stationary hand placements on or just above specific energy centers—such as the head, torso, and limbs.
Because it requires no physical manipulation, it is a safe, deeply soothing experience for everyone. While receiving Reiki, clients frequently report experiencing:
• A deep sense of calm and peace • A sensation of gentle warmth or tingling • Noticeable release of physical tension • An overall feeling of rejuvenation
Where Does it Come From?
Reiki is rooted in a traditional Japanese healing system developed in the early twentieth century by Dr. Mikao Usui. Following a period of deep meditation and spiritual reflection on Mount Kurama, Usui established a structured, teachable practice designed to channel universal life energy to encourage the body’s natural self-healing capabilities. In the 1930s, the practice was introduced to the Western world, where it evolved into the globally respected complementary care system used today.
